Years ago a young baseball player’s long-ball hitting got theattention of a pro scout, and the boy was offered a contract. Whenhe went off to spring training, he performed well. And each weekhe wired his mother back at home to inform her of his progress.
Week One: “Dear Mom, leading all batters. These pitchers aren’tso tough.”
Week Two: “Dear Mom, looks like I will be starting in infield.Now hitting .500.”
Week Three: “Dear Mom, today they started throwing curves. Willbe home Friday.”
